Ingredients

Scale
  • 1 cup milk
  • 2 tbsp active dry yeast
  • 1 tsp white sugar
  • 2 eggs
  • 1/4 cup water
  • pinch of salt
  • 1/4 cup melted unsalted butter
  • 1/4 tsp cinnamon
  • 3 cups all purpose white flour (you may need more or less depending on how dry your kitchen is)
  • 1/2 cup california raisins
  • oil for brushing bowl
  • 1 egg, beaten
  • 1 tbsp water
  • 3 tbsp icing sugar

Instructions

  • Mix warmed milk, yeast, and sugar in a bowl; let sit for 10 minutes until foamy.
  • Combine eggs, water, salt, butter, and cinnamon with the yeast mixture.
  • Gradually add flour, one cup at a time, until a dough forms.
  • Stir in the raisins until evenly distributed.
  • Grease a bowl with oil, place the dough inside, cover with a moist towel, and let rise for 90 minutes in a warm area.
  • Divide the dough into 9 large or 12 smaller balls and arrange them on a baking pan.
  • Preheat the oven to 375°F.
  • Let the dough balls rise for another 30 minutes, covered with a moist towel.
  • Brush the tops of the buns with the egg wash.
  • Bake in the preheated oven for 15 minutes until golden.
  • Mix the water with icing sugar to create a thick glaze and transfer it to a piping bag.
  • Allow buns to cool completely before piping a cross with the glaze on each bun.
  • Serve with butter and enjoy!

Notes

Ensure the milk is warmed but not boiling to activate the yeast properly.
If the dough is too sticky, add a little more flour while kneading.
