Description

This Glazed Donut Bread is a delightful blend of sweet flavors, featuring a soft texture and a lavish glaze. Easy to make and hard to resist, it’s perfect for breakfast or a special treat.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 2 cups (250 g) all-purpose flour
  • 1 ½ cups (300 g) granulated sugar
  • 2 teaspoons baking powder
  • ½ teaspoon kosher salt
  • ¼ teaspoon ground nutmeg
  • 1 ¼ cups (306 g) whole milk
  • 1 large egg, (room temperature)
  • 2 tablespoons unsalted butter, (melted)
  • 1 tablespoon vanilla extract
  • 2 cups (250 g) confectioners’ sugar
  • 4 to 5 tablespoons milk, (or heavy cream for richer glaze)
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 1 pinch kosher salt, (optional (enhances flavor))

Instructions

  1. Preheat the oven to 350°F and prepare an 8 ½ x 4 ½-inch loaf pan with nonstick cooking spray.
  2. In a large bowl, mix together flour, granulated sugar, baking powder, salt, and ground nutmeg.
  3. In another bowl, whisk together milk, egg, melted butter, and vanilla until well blended.
  4. Combine the milk mixture with the flour mixture, stirring gently until just combined. The batter should remain a bit runny.
  5. Pour the batter into the prepared loaf pan, spreading it evenly.
  6. Bake for 60 to 70 minutes, or until a toothpick inserted in the center comes out with a few crumbs and the top is golden brown.
  7. Remove the bread from the oven and let it cool in the pan for about 10 minutes before transferring it to a wire rack set over parchment paper to catch any drips.
  8. For the glaze, whisk together confectioners' sugar, 4 tablespoons of milk, vanilla extract, and a pinch of salt until smooth. Adjust the consistency with more milk if too thick.
  9. While the bread is still warm, pour or spoon the glaze generously over the top, allowing it to drip down the sides. Optionally, dip the top into the glaze for a more indulgent layer.
  10. Let the glaze set for 20 to 30 minutes before slicing and serving.

Notes

Ensure that the egg is at room temperature for better incorporation into the batter.
For a richer glaze, use heavy cream instead of milk in the glaze mix.
Store any leftovers in an airtight container at room temperature for up to 3 days.
