Ingredients
Scale
- 1 3/4 cups all-purpose flour
- 2 cups granulated sugar
- 3/4 cup unsweetened cocoa powder
- 1 tsp baking soda
- 1 1/2 tsp baking powder
- 1/2 tsp salt
- 2 large eggs
- 1 cup buttermilk
- 1 cup hot water
- 1/2 cup vegetable oil
Instructions
- Preheat the oven to 350°F (180°C). Prepare an 8-inch square baking pan by buttering and lining it with parchment paper, extending it up the sides. Butter the parchment and dust lightly with flour, then set aside.
- In a large bowl, mix together flour, sugar, cocoa powder, baking soda, baking powder, and salt.
- Whisk in egg, buttermilk, hot water, and vegetable oil until the mixture is smooth.
- Pour the batter into the prepared pan and gently tap it on the counter to eliminate air bubbles.
- Bake for 25–30 minutes or until a toothpick comes out clean from the center. Leave the cake in the pan.
- Prepare the One Minute Chocolate Frosting as per the instructions provided.
- Once both the frosting and the cake are warm, pour the frosting over the cake and let it set for at least 2 hours before slicing.
- Serve with a scoop of vanilla ice cream. Store any leftovers in an airtight container at room temperature for up to 3 days.
Notes
Make sure to measure ingredients accurately for the best results.
Using hot water helps to enhance the flavor of the cocoa powder.
For a richer flavor, consider adding a pinch of espresso powder to the batter.
