Description

These Orange Almond Chocolate Chip Cookies are a delightful treat, merging zesty orange flavor with crunchy almonds and gooey chocolate chips. Simple to prepare, these cookies promise a delicious burst of flavor in each bite, making them ideal for gatherings or a sweet snack at home.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 1½ cups (188 g) all-purpose flour
  • ½ teaspoon baking soda
  • ½ teaspoon salt
  • 1 teaspoon (2 g) orange zest
  • ¼ cup (50 g) granulated sugar
  • ½ cup (113 g) unsalted butter, room temperature
  • ½ cup (100 g) light brown sugar, packed
  • 1 large egg, room temperature
  • ½ teaspoon vanilla extract
  • ¼ teaspoon almond extract
  • ½ cup (84 g) mini chocolate chips
  • ¼ cup (30 g) sliced almonds, plus 2 tablespoons (15g) extra for optional topping

Instructions

  1. Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C) and prepare a baking sheet with parchment paper.
  2. In a small bowl, mix together the flour, baking soda, and salt.
  3. In a medium bowl, combine orange zest and granulated sugar, rubbing them together until the sugar is moist and fragrant.
  4. Add softened butter and brown sugar to the orange-infused sugar, then cream together until fluffy. Mix in the egg, vanilla extract, and almond extract, ensuring everything is well incorporated.
  5. Gradually add the dry mixture to the wet ingredients until just a few flour streaks remain.
  6. Gently fold in mini chocolate chips and sliced almonds into the cookie dough.
  7. Scoop and roll the cookie dough into smooth balls, using about 3 tablespoons per cookie.
  8. For added crunch, optional: dip the tops of each dough ball in extra sliced almonds or chill the dough in the refrigerator for 30 minutes for enhanced flavor.
  9. Arrange cookie dough balls on the baking sheet, spacing them 2 inches apart. Bake on the middle rack for 8-10 minutes or until edges are lightly browned.
  10. Allow cookies to cool on the baking sheet for 5 minutes before transferring to a wire rack to cool completely.

Notes

For best results, ensure ingredients are at room temperature before starting.
Feel free to substitute dark chocolate chips for a richer flavor.
If you prefer softer cookies, reduce the baking time slightly.
