Ingredients
Scale
- 1½ cups (188 g) all-purpose flour
- ½ teaspoon baking soda
- ½ teaspoon salt
- 1 teaspoon (2 g) orange zest
- ¼ cup (50 g) granulated sugar
- ½ cup (113 g) unsalted butter, room temperature
- ½ cup (100 g) light brown sugar, packed
- 1 large egg, room temperature
- ½ teaspoon vanilla extract
- ¼ teaspoon almond extract
- ½ cup (84 g) mini chocolate chips
- ¼ cup (30 g) sliced almonds, plus 2 tablespoons (15g) extra for optional topping
Instructions
- Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C) and prepare a baking sheet with parchment paper.
- In a small bowl, mix together the flour, baking soda, and salt.
- In a medium bowl, combine orange zest and granulated sugar, rubbing them together until the sugar is moist and fragrant.
- Add softened butter and brown sugar to the orange-infused sugar, then cream together until fluffy. Mix in the egg, vanilla extract, and almond extract, ensuring everything is well incorporated.
- Gradually add the dry mixture to the wet ingredients until just a few flour streaks remain.
- Gently fold in mini chocolate chips and sliced almonds into the cookie dough.
- Scoop and roll the cookie dough into smooth balls, using about 3 tablespoons per cookie.
- For added crunch, optional: dip the tops of each dough ball in extra sliced almonds or chill the dough in the refrigerator for 30 minutes for enhanced flavor.
- Arrange cookie dough balls on the baking sheet, spacing them 2 inches apart. Bake on the middle rack for 8-10 minutes or until edges are lightly browned.
- Allow cookies to cool on the baking sheet for 5 minutes before transferring to a wire rack to cool completely.
Notes
For best results, ensure ingredients are at room temperature before starting.
Feel free to substitute dark chocolate chips for a richer flavor.
If you prefer softer cookies, reduce the baking time slightly.
