Description

These Chocolate Frosted Baked Donuts boast an irresistible flavor and simple preparation with key ingredients like brown sugar and chocolate chips, making them perfect for any occasion!

Ingredients

Scale
  • 1 cup (125g) all-purpose flour (spooned & leveled)
  • 1 teaspoon baking powder
  • 1/4 teaspoon baking soda
  • 1/8 teaspoon salt
  • 1/4 teaspoon ground nutmeg
  • 1 large egg, at room temperature
  • 1/3 cup (67g) packed light or dark brown sugar
  • 1/4 cup (60g/ml) milk, at room temperature
  • 1/4 cup (60g) sour cream or plain yogurt, at room temperature
  • 2 tablespoons (28g) unsalted butter, melted
  • 1 and 1/2 teaspoons pure vanilla extract
  • 1/2 cup (90g) semi-sweet chocolate chips
  • 2 tablespoons (28g) unsalted butter
  • 2 teaspoons light corn syrup
  • 2 teaspoons water
  • optional: rainbow sprinkles, for topping

Instructions

  1. Preheat the oven to 350°F (177°C). Grease a donut pan with nonstick spray and prepare for 8 donuts.
  2. In a large bowl, mix the flour, baking powder, baking soda, salt, and nutmeg. Set aside.
  3. In another bowl, whisk the egg, brown sugar, milk, and sour cream/yogurt until smooth. Stir in the melted butter and vanilla.
  4. Combine the wet and dry ingredients until just mixed. Be careful not to overmix; the batter should be thick.
  5. Transfer the batter to a gallon-size zip-top bag and snip one corner. Pipe the batter into the donut pan, filling each cavity about 1/2–2/3 full.
  6. Bake for 9–10 minutes, or until donuts spring back when pressed. Cool for 2 minutes in the pan, then transfer to a rack.
  7. For the glaze, melt together chocolate chips, butter, corn syrup, and water in the microwave until smooth. Dip cooled donuts into the glaze and add sprinkles if desired.
  8. Enjoy immediately or wait for the glaze to set.

Notes

These donuts are best enjoyed on the same day they are made.
Store leftover donuts tightly at room temperature for 1–2 days or refrigerate for up to 1 week.
Feel free to experiment with different toppings like nuts or different types of sprinkles.
